The characteristics of a globalized world, where even today the way of armed conflict has other dimensions, the Armed Forces must consider new challenges in how to conduct military actions on the battlefield, avoiding the less damage to the minimum the civilians and comply with the stipulated by the humanitarian international standards, at the same time that it grantslegitimacy to the activities carried out in defense of the sovereignty of the State that they represent. For this reason, this article presents a reflection about the discipline of Operational Law, focusing on the importance for members of the armed forces of any country and especially heir commanders,have the adoption and enforcement of a clear and precise Rules of Engagement and, on the same line with International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, during the planning and conduct of military operations.
